FAQ
What Can I Expect at the Ceremonies?
Ceremonies of Umbanda are a unique and personalized healing experience for anyone who attends. Practices are based in animism: the belief that we are inseparably and deeply interconnected with each other, the earth, and our divinity. This is such an important and fundamental question that we wrote a short guide here.
How Long Will the Ceremony Last?
Because the ceremonies serve the community, the length of the ceremony depends on the needs of those who attend that evening. The typical length is 90 to 120 minutes, and people can leave early, step out to take a call, and generally take care of themselves as they and their schedule require.
Can Kids Come?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your child! It's not uncommon in Brazil for people to bring their kids. Please note that we work authentically with strong energies and materials for spiritual cleansing (tobacco smoke, seawater, colored chalk), and that all songs are in Portuguese.
Is Umbanda Dark Magic?
Traditions that worship the earth and the feminine and that recognize the importance of the body and difficult energies like grief are labeled "dark." Read here for why you should stop fearing dark traditions and instead embrace them.
How Much Does It Cost to Attend a Ceremony?
Attendance is donation-based. This is to diminish barriers to receiving help and to increase access and inclusivity. If possible, we ask a $10-$20 donation (pay what you re able) cash, check, or Venmo at the door to cover the cost of materials, the space, and food and drink for special events. Ceremony of the Orixás is a charitable community-based organization and thanks you for your donation to sustain this work.
How Do I Attend?
