Ceremonies of Umbanda

Abrindo Caminhos, Opening The Path

Energy Healing

DSC01712.jpg

We work energetically with the Orixas and lines of Caboclos: Yemanja, Oxossi, Xango, Ogum, Iansa, Omulu, Oxum and more. Mediums work using the method of incorporação, translated as "making manifest in the body." The medium's body becomes a vessel for divinity, giving a direct impact on individuals present at the ceremony. During incorporation, the community is waved forward to receive passes, energy healing. It is traditional to wear only socks or bare feet at this time. To receive a passe, stand comfortably with your hands hanging at your sides.

Sacred Song With Blessing

Healing using sacred song comes from traditions all over the world; in particular, Umbanda uses a West African approach from Yoruba. Singing, clapping, and drumming facilitate the incorporated state of the medium and beautifully share this energy with the community. Umbanda sacred songs are called pontos in Portugese and are sung for the Orixas, the entities, and the balance of the community members in attendance. While everyone is invited to clap and sing, only initiated mediums with permissions may incorporate entities.

One-on-One Consult

Community members in attendance have the option consult privately with mediums where they may ask for help or guidance with any issue. These consults are kept confidential. If you do not understand a part of the consult, please clarify immediately as the mediums are in a trance and may not remember afterwards. Called consultas in Portuguese, the mediums give advice during the state of incorporação in the lines of Preto Velho, Exu, or Cigano.

Ceremonial Food & Drink (Special Events)

During festas and special celebrations of the Orixas, we make and share food with the community. The food is blessed during the work and eaten afterwards to welcome this energy into our bodies. To consume ceremonial food and drink is an act of devotion and gratitude, opening our paths to more faith and humility.
